ASCI MEMBERS PRESENT

Those ASCI members attending the symposium will share their artwork with eachother and the audience through short audio/video presentations. ASCI is one of the most eclectic groups of people working in the field of art & technology, representing media as diverse as: sound installations, digital graphics, kinetic and light art, video sculpture and installations, web-art projects, multimedia, photography, holography, interactive installations, multi-media performance, even puppetry inspired by chaos and complexity theories.

Sunday 2:00 - 2:30pm
Preview of "LIGHTFORMS'98"
an International Competition and Exhibition
The three winning proposals for monumental, site-specific, and interactive lightworks that will be installed in the Great Hall of The New York Hall of Science, in Queens, April 17 - May 31, 1998. The winners are from London, Montreal, and the Netherlands. "Winners"

Documentation of "SEVEN ENIGMAS"
a provocative art/sci multi-media performance
from a University of Michigan collaboration
Seven Enigmas represents different ways of approaching the enigmatic, or interacting with it, and being affected by it. Instead of answering questions, these seven pieces describe some of the many possible responses in the face of incomprehensible mysteries and unreachable knowledge. Primary collaborators were: choreographer/director, Peter Sparling and set design by painter Jim Cogswell with research scientists Fred Bookstein (morphometrics) and John Clark (space physics).

Saturday & Sunday (10am-6pm)
I.C.E.@ArtSci98

I.C.E.@ArtSci98 is an exhibition by students grades 6-11 from The Institute for Collaborative Education (I.C.E.). Students used their skills to create interdisciplinary projects based on their studies in science, studio art and interactive multimedia.

The studio art projects combine the study of color theory with constructions of cells, electrons and planets. Other works include drawings based on evolutionary and planetary change, scenery from a play about scientific theory, photographs and drawings documenting patterns found in nature. ãDiversity In Science,ä a multimedia stack, addresses a variety of scientific topics of interest to students including: Global Warming, The Eye, Dogs and Dolphins, TV, and Space. In the ãWhatâs (The) Matter?ä interactive lab, the user learns about the states of matter such as mixtures, elements, compounds, and the periodic table.

The teachers who planned this exhibition are Miriam Gottlieb- Studio Art, Meryl Meisler- Multimedia, Matt Morey- Physics, Alex Shub- Intro. to Science, Traci White- Chemistry. Support for this project was provided by Dr. Ceccarelli, Arts Education Director/ Manhattan Superintendency, Cynthia Pannucci - Founder/Director of ASCI, John Pettinato- I.C.E. Principal, and Mr. Granger Ward- Superintendent of Manhattan High Schools. I.C.E. is a member of the Coalition of Essential Schools.
