ARTIST STATEMENT

My digital prints are constructed through a layering of Photoshop images with traditional techniques such as monotype, relief and lithographic printmaking. In this case, the output is purely digital, but the overall look of each image retains the delicate textures and nuances that only hand-printing can create. "Future Bear" and "Off the Grid," consider the question of our planet's survival in light of accelerating climate change. Each image relies on the juxtaposition of objects and time periods to evoke questions about the future of our planet as well as our role as innovators and problem-solvers.  Though it may seem silly to think that polar bears will grow gills and wear jet packs in order to hunt and survive, it is often our wildest ideas that end up as realities in the future. Our real challenge is to make the choice to imagine a future that encourages the human race to live in harmony with the biosphere and not in conflict with it.
