Sidney Perkowitz, Professor of Physics at Emory University, explores the role of artificial beings in science fiction and fantasy, from books to television and the silver screen. His new book, Digital People: From Bionic Humans to Androids, is a look at what he calls "the next level of humanity," and addresses the ethical questions surrounding where technology is taking us. A book signing will follow.

Ned Kahn is an artist and exhibit designer whose works draw from a palette of natural phenomena to reveal the beauty of the forces that shape our world. He will illustrate the intersection of science and art with slides and examples of his work, some of which can be viewed in the exhibition Exploratorium/AMNH. Kahn is a recent recipient of a MacArthur "Genius" Fellowship.

Diane Ackerman, best-selling author of A Natural History of the Senses, returns to bridge the gap between science and art. In her latest book, she delves further into the human brain's bag of tricks, examining the notions of self and identity, the mechanics of memory, how the brain becomes the mind, and what it is about our brain that makes us quintessentially human.
