Application Requirements
There is no application fee. The following applies to both of the two commissions:

Looking towards the west Visual Design Proposals
An illustration/drawing/photo or any combo thereof of your Visual Design Proposal. This should be 8"x10 " in either horizontal or vertical format. Please send with a cardboard in the envelope to prevent damage in the mail.

You may apply appropriate notations on Design Proposal's surface indicating scale, distances, materials, lighting systems, etc. whatever will help understand the workings of the piece. (This is preferable.)

If you do not choose to put notations on the Design Proposal's surface, the DRAWING MUST BE TO SCALE (which you must put on this side) and you must include these details in the text of your written description.

Diagrams
Positioning Diagram: locates your work precisely within its site and has notations regarding details of installation and use of any consultants.

Electrical Scheme Diagram: Diagram the layout of your electrical scheme, including notations for: type of cable, connectors, fixtures, bulbs, and other components that will be used.
Mechanical Systems: You may also include up to 2 more diagrams describing the mechanical workings of the piece.

Visual Support Materials
Please send a sheet of 20 slides documenting your previous work that will support your ability to actualize the design proposal you have submitted.

If you are proposing an interactive piece...one 10-15min. VHS video documentation tape IS REQUIRED of your previous work.

A written description OF THE VIDEO... if no narration is on the tape.

Written Description
This should be approximately 2 typed pages (12pt):
  • One page should be devoted to describing the visuals, materials, and systems.
  • One page should describe the "working scenarios": of how the outdoor piece will interact with either the public and/or the natural elements; or any programmable changes designed into the lighting system of the tower piece.
  • List of Materials and Equipment Specifications: Send a list of specific lamps (wattage), lighting fixtures, motors and devices, computers and control systems, interactive sensors, etc... giving the watts/amps. required by each. The TOTAL amps. for your system must be accurate and fall within the guidelines set forth above for each project.
  • Donated Materials & Special Equipment: Send a list of any materials or special equipment that YOU will be looking for in donations, from which manufacturers, and assign a cash value to each.
  • Please give the names and contact information of three professional references for your work (from recent projects).
  • Materials will not be returned without a Self-Addressed-Return Envelope.

(Opportunity to visit both installation locations, ask questions of GPU, LSC, & ASCI, and opportunity to attend a presentation about fiber optics- last hour.) Meetings are optional.
