Peter Gudynas - Birmingham, UK

GUDYNAS 2
Interneural, 20"x16" [unframed] Limited edition Digital Iris Giclee
archival print, edition of 60, Digital montage and electronic painting and
retouching, 2002

"Interneural Net" is one of a series of images included in an exhibition and book project; 'Posthuman Photofictions and Speculative Illustrations'. This is concerned with presenting a speculative vision of the human image transformed by some of the more far reaching applications of scientific and technological modernity. A 'techno surrealist' visual commentary, referencing science fiction and fact and the sometimes decreasing imaginative distinction between these two areas, referring to humanities reliance on accelerated technological development and the notion of post human evolution.

"Interneural Net" Envisions the cautionary subject of hive mind networks - interconnected cerebral cortex's, through implanted brain/computer biotechnology, facilitating direct cerebral and neural access to internet/web networks - a kind of technologically induced cybernetic telepathy. Minds controlling computers and vice versa - the speed of thought. The merger of hard and soft, inanimate and animate. The technological extension of post human minds: is this a vision of tomorrow?
