 Pinecones, 8" x 10" Epson 9000 print on paper, 2004
In my work, I demonstrate the contradictions, enigma, and multiplicity of one's identity inspired and assisted by digital technology. To do so, I use my own body as the source image to create hybrid images simulating preternatural objects and abstracted landscape. I sort and dissect images of my body - the female body - equating it to computer data with no specific hierarchy. I am attracted to this process because it parallels the way I compose my own sense of self and cultural identity from a mosaic of heterogeneous experiences. These "self-portraits" are revealing yet secretive and intimate yet impersonal.
