In my photographs and installations, I use the familiar as a pathway to the unfamiliar. This approach enables me to investigate how shifts in physical and psychological perspective alter our perception and reveal new layers of meaning. Taking this as a point of departure, my creative process integrates mechanical, photographic and digital tools to produce images and impressions that act as conduits for experiences that are not accessible through the everyday. These “filtrate” series began as the visualization of the work of Johannes Wieland, a choreographer with whom I have been collaborating since 2001. These highly abstracted digital manipulations of photographs parallel our subconscious filtering of our surroundings. I am particularly interested in the new surreal dimensions that emerge from this process of filtration. hallo@sebastianlemm.com www.sebastianlemm.com
