Artist Statement:
Since 1980, I have explored the nature of digital imaging in my work. The manifestation of this exploration has taken form in prints, paintings and installations. This series - Reiterations - is inspired by physicists' attempts to image colliding particles in a bubble chamber. Using code that simulates the behaviors of charged particles and magnetic fields, I generate an image. I look at its visual "expression" and stop the simulation when I have achieved an expression that intrigues me. I then enhance the image further in Photoshop and make a print. I am drawn to bubble chamber imagery for its clinical analysis of the particles that compose our world. In this scientific, clinical analysis I find an exquisite beauty which is at once elaborative, delicate and powerfully expressive.
