The images you see were generated from photographs of the body. Images were scanned then manipulated on the computer to produce contour line renderings. Text and graphics were superimposed.
There was an interest in subjecting human form and gesture to the schematic of a system. The intent was to examine the nature of systems by applying its language to an organic and familiar form. The computer itself is a system. Who has the authority to create and distribute information? In which ways are our prejudices and perspective perpetuated through systems of visual information?
These maps can be read as scaled-down representations of vast areas. But they also function one-to-one. A comparison is made between perception of the human body and perception of a landmass. The intent is to examine the functions assigned to both.
