Artist Statement:
The roots of my art are complex but the work is essentially about color and light and human experience. Early work with Gyorgy Kepes at MIT inspired interest in the Art/Science/Technology area and a long friendship with Buckminister Fuller, the study of structure and form. Nature, poetry and the perceptions of many cultures provide fuel for the imagination.
Currently I am creating a multifaceted work for the Mathematics building at the University of Utah which reveals the range and influence of mathematics in related sciences, art and culture. It draws upon every aspect of my experience as well as requiring understanding of new scientific developments and technical solutions.
For this exhibition I selected the First Floor Lobby Study, NUMBERS AND MEASURE. By expanding the concept to include measure, the arts could be included.
