Artist Statement: The imagery of the HIV virus encased by CMV, Cytomegalovirus, in a fleshy womb is intended to refocus attention to this couple on a micro scale. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is an opportunistic
infection commonly associated with HIV disease. A healthy immune system keeps this virus in check, but in association with HIV, the immune defenses are weakened. It is also the virus most frequently transmitted to a developing child before birth. Visually coupling this sensual pair with flesh like qualities reinforces the intimate relation that these two viruses share in conquering
a common host.
