William M. Byrne - New York City

Cell Procession, 20 x 30, Epson 9500, 2001

Artist Statement:

All of my montages, including Cell Procession come from digital photographs of objects that
were once functional technology that has broken down and discarded to the curbs of city streets. I use the idea of a digital montage to give these discarded objects a second life, to take their image and place them as part of a fictional biology. I want to use digital tools to make machine-beings; somewhere between the science based bio-morhpic abstraction of Roberto Matta and the comical contraptions of Rube Goldberg.
