SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Digital Image-Making Process:

There must be computer manipulation or enhancement during the image-making process. "Straight photos" or digitized paintings printed with a digital printer are NOT acceptable.

Digital Output Media:  Although most digital prints are on paper, we will accept various digital output media, including canvas, aluminum, [other rigid materials], however, there must be some sort of "protective" coating on the top, and the artist must sign-off in writing that the museum is not responsible for damage to the surface of the work. Unlike art museums, there are not guards in the room and all the science museums are "hands-on", so the surfaces must be protected.

All artwork must be ready to hang and include hanging mechanisms that involve only 2 nails into the wall. [Include typed instructions with your packaging.]

Transparencies like Durotrans, when used as part of a finished product such as a lightbox, are allowable.
For Lightbox Restrictions:  Email info@asci.org

3D digital prints are welcomed, but not more than 40 lbs. total weight.

Protect your artwork:  Science museums are mostly "hands-on" environments; unlike art museums, they do NOT have guards in each room. So, your hanging system should compliment the style of the work and offer protection!

DIGITAL IMAGE SPECIFICATIONS:

Only artworks appropriate for a "family audience. [No explicit sexuality.]

AMOUNT:  1-5 images maximum

- A "series" counts as individual artworks in terms of Entry Fees [example: If there are 5 images in a series, the entry fee is $50]. Images will be hung together on the wall.

-  jpg images will be deleted after jurying process, except those selected for exhibition, which will be used for the online Digital’06 exhibition.

-  If selected, images in the online exhibition will remain permanently archived at the ASCI website, and by entering you accept this stipulation.

IMAGE FORMAT & SAVING:
- size: not larger than 8 inches [576 pixels] in either direction
- save image at 72dpi
- save image as "jpg"
- 500K maximum size jpg [after compression*]
- your "last name" = first word in jpg title
   [example: "SmithJH_MolecularDaze3.jpg"]

*JPG SIZE TEST:  If you were to attach your jpg(s) to an email, the title and "final compression" KB size appear in the attachment area of email. OR, if you save the jpg to your computer desktop, you can also see the "final compression" size. NOTE: an image in Photoshop could show the "image size" as 785KB, but after jpg compression, it becomes a 192KB jpg. We hope this helps clarify what we want.
