ARTIST STATEMENT
The evocative "pictorial" forms that can sometimes be found in process-driven patterns in nature are randomly generated within arrangements of material that also exhibit characteristic and recognizable overall visual features. A field of pixels in a digital environment can also be governed by processes and conditions that offer rich visual possibilities. The cultivation of expressive character in the unique formations that can occur within visual fields that are otherwise defined by their global self-similarity is the primary objective of this work. These images are derived from digital noise patterns that have been enlarged and repeatedly transformed by a combination of direct interventions and software-enabled processes. The real subject here is the interplay between randomness and coherence, leading to the emergence of life-like shapes and non-verbal narrative.
