Marine Moments
An exhibition by two scientists to celebrate the underwater world.
Amanda Reichelt-Brushett and Peter Harrison
The oceans cover seventy percent of our planet yet few of us spend any extended time underwater. We are visitors to the underwater world, dependant on air tanks to supply our oxygen needs. It is still a strange place that we know little about. In this exhibition we present to you some moments in time in that underwater space.
This exhibition highlights the role the underwater photographer plays in capturing images of our extraordinary and beautiful marine life. Peter makes decisions about what to photograph not only from a photographer’s perspective but also as a marine biologist. In this exhibition Amanda uses Peter's images and her diving experience as inspiration for her paintings. Amanda works towards capturing the character of a species and to evoke a feeling of being there under the water.
The presentation of both the paintings, and photographs that inspired them, highlights the importance of photography in painting the world beneath our oceans. It also highlights the importance of creativity and discovery that characterise both art and science.
