ARTIST STATEMENT

My work depicts imaginary scenes that derive their complexity from the deceptively simple behavior of large numbers of independent elements. When the rules governing their interactions are solved together, they create massively-complex galaxies of forms that reflect the natural origin of their rules. Renewable energy sources are necessary for sustained life on earth, and many of the sources considered (wind, wave, solar tower, nuclear fusion) depend in whole or in part on fluid dynamics research for economic viability. Because my artwork is based on fluid dynamic principles, it can uniquely express concepts from energy research. "Loops" depicts particle traces through a circular vector field, mimicking field lines in a fusion reactor.
