ARTIST STATEMENT

I enjoy blurring boundaries; between human and animal, organic and mechanical, science and art, imagination and knowledge.
   
These recent pieces began with the cyanotype process, an antique method of creating photographic images with sunlight. I continued to layer photographic imagery, and let the process evolve digitally. This interplay of media is a contemporary pairing of current 
technology with what was "high-tech" in 1842.
   
This series evolved from several areas of scientific interest: entropy, neurobiology, radiographs and anatomical structure, self-similarity and the creation of chimeras. These ideas produce images that are mysterious, and that may be interpreted in different ways.
   
I hope to achieve a balance between apprehension and amusement, the disturbing and the beautiful.
