Artist Statement
I create sculptures and 3-D objects which are transformed by the interaction of people or nature. My intention is to captivate, delight and sometimes inform, often harkening back to childhood memories such as lightning bugs, toys and quilts. The work done for museums, offers a thoughtful and playful structure which invites the participation of the viewer in the completion of the artwork. This involves the physical interaction and decision-making of the viewer. These pieces educate in an experiential rather than a didactic manner, revealing fundamental elements of the artistic process. My sculpture that interacts with nature is meant to surprise, provoke a curiosity about scientific phenomena and draw attention to crucial issues regarding the environment.
