TEKmart, probably the first of its kind, is an online storehouse
of new art materials, technologies, services, and publications that are
not found at the local art supply store!
TEKmart is for those artists, designers, architects, and
others who choose materials and technologies based on the specific requirements
of each project... for functionality and/or for their intrinsic aesthetics.
Among other things, today's 2-D artists use digital tools and technologies
to combine media and paint pictures on computers, video walls, and the WWW.
Today's 3-D designers might require thick neoprene as the hinge for an aquatic
sculpture... or fiber optics might be the best material & technology
to give an evening presence, durability, and ease of maintenance to a public
sculpture. (TEKmart was conceived in 1996 by ASCI's director, Cynthia Pannucci,
with the logo design and name by Stephen s'Soreff in 1997.)
TEKmart begins with over 90 sources ranging from celastic
modeling material to vacuum-form machines, steadicam camera mounts, to welders,
and the "mind-glove".
